New faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Rebecca Suzanne Moore, M.D.

Dr. Rebecca (Becca) Suzanne Moore, who recently completed a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Department of Newborn Medicine.

After receiving her B.S. in microbiology summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2006, Moore earned her M.D. at UMMC in 2011. She completed her  pediatric residency training from 2011-2014 and fellowship training in neonatal-perinatal medicine from 2014-2017 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.

An active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Moore has given more than 20 lectures and talks on a variety of subjects, including evidence-based medicine and quality and safety topics. The author or coauthor of three articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications and an experienced researcher, Moore’s academic interests include maternal-fetal medicine, neonatal resuscitation, Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy, human milk and nutrition, neonatal sepsis and neurodevelopmental follow-up.

Michael Wyatt Morris Jr., M.D.

Dr. Michael Wyatt Morris Jr., a recent pediatric surgery fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of surgery.

After receiving his B.S. from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 2002, Morris earned his M.D. at the LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans, in 2008. He then completed a general surgery internship from 2008-09, a general surgery residency from 2009-15 and a pediatric surgery fellowship from 2015-17 at UMMC, where he was an administrative chief resident in the Department of Surgery from 2014-15.  His research fellowship occurred from 2011-13 with a focus on fetal surgery and regenerative medicine, which required work through UMMC and Nemours Hospital in Orlando, Florida, for which he earned the Anita Roberts Young Investigator Award from the Wound Healing Society.

Morris has professional memberships in the American College of Surgeons and the American Pediatric Surgery Association, has garnered professional honors with acceptance into Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Societies, and has multiple teaching awards. He is the author or coauthor of 26 articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications and more than 40 invited oral presentations and abstracts. He serves as an ad hoc editor for the Journal of Surgical Research, Advances in Wound Care and the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.

Kathryn M. Nutter, M.D.

Dr. Kathryn M. Nutter, an experienced musculoskeletal radiologist at Radiology Specialists, LLC and a radiation safety officer at Merit Health in Natchez, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology.

After receiving her B.S. in microbiology from Mississippi State University in 1997, Nutter earned her M.D. in 2001 at UMMC, where she had an internal medicine internship from 2001-02, a radiology residency from 2002-06, and a musculoskeletal radiology fellowship from 2006-07.

Nutter joined Radiology Specialists in 2007 as a musculoskeletal radiologist and has served as a radiation safety officer for Merit health since 2009. She also briefly served as an assistant professor of radiology at UMMC from 2008-09.

The coauthor of an article, “Esophageal Diverticula: Current Classification and Important Complications,” in the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association, Nutter is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Mississippi State Medical Association. Her interests include musculoskeletal imaging, neurological imaging, body imaging, nuclear medicine, digital radiography and digital mammography.
